Make up

Astro Wah Lai Toi is now showing a TVB drama called “Yin Jie Sui Fun” (The Charm Beneath). It’s a story about the Chuk Family’s managing the cosmetics business.

Why do cosmetic giants spent millions of dollars in hiring spokesperson and come out with different products every season? We always said that natural beauty is God’s gift but then again why do we always stop our track in front of those cosmetic counters? Women already start using make up long long time ago. Every woman will wear make up at least once in her lifetime (usually at her wedding day). Because deep down in our hearts we always think that we can be the most beautiful.

On the way home the other day, a pretty lady was standing by my side in the LRT. I was actually admiring her face with the perfect eyebrows, long lashes and high nose but that’s before I noticed her fingernails! Her ruby red nail polish that she applied has all gone and left a small patch in the middle for all 10 fingers! How can she not notice it or she just can’t be bother? At least remove the old coat and apply a new one!

Why do you need a pair of smokey eyes when you will end up looking like a panda? Just because its the trend now? Find out how to make your eyes sparkle by applying some nice eye shadows or get enough sleep so that you don't have any eye bags compliments of those late nights.

Why put on concealer when your face is like a kaffir lime or covered with acne? This will only worsen the situation and makes your face looks like a 3-inch icing on top of a cake!!! Get a treatment to clear all the acne or try to improve the face situation before you even consider any foundation. Drink more water. Wash the face with a good cleanser and not soap!

Do not put on lipsticks when you have chapped or dry lips? It’s so ugly when the colour of lipstick apply on top of all the dead skin. Lips should always be in a healthy condition meaning no dead skin all over the lips! Apply a good lip balm every night before going to bed and exfoliate them with a toothbrush when you brush your teeth. Invest in a good lipstick. Again apply a coat of lip balm before applying the lipstick as this can protect the lips not to absorb the colour directly.

I've a tip to share ... I don’t use any make up remover for the lips but instead pour some warm water on a piece of tissue and wipe it off. Works like magic and will keep your lips smooth and kissable even without lipstick!

Remember to trim your eyebrows. It'll make every woman to look neat even if you don't like wearing make up. But please don't shave off the eyebrows and draw a line across! This is the biggest humiliation you ever done to your face. Forget about the fake lashes ... unless you intend to participate in the next beauty pageant!

Take care of our face. Smile often. Have a good heart. Be clean and dress neatly. Be beautiful inside out. Don't do it for anyone. Do it for ourselves. Lets work together.

God Bless.

Neighbors

If you like to visit KL’s most happening and noisiest street, forget Bintang Walk or the Petaling Street.

You are welcome to the street in front of my house. No, the noise doesn’t come from the resident at the Zoo Negara next door (yes I live near that area) but instead the normal human beings. I have the most irritating and inconsiderate neighbors living around me.

My left neighbor likes to work as a carpenter in the middle of the night when I'm about to doze off. Out of a sudden, the hammering and tools sounds will start and jolt me up from the bed #%$*&.

The right side retired malay fella is so free that he loves to start the car engine twice a day for 1 hour but he never uses the car and cause all the exhaust to fill into our living room. His daughter is next, she will set the handphone alarm at 6.00 a.m. every morning but she sleeps like a sei-g (dead pig) until her parents knock on her door to wake up her for college and thats like 1/2 hour later. Her room is not even next to mine but I can still hear it so clearly until I don't have to set my own alarm clock :(

The fool who owns 2 cars living next next doors on the right always seems to press the wrong button on his car key and the alarm will sound for a good few minutes before he decides to turn it off !!!

The kids from my back neighbor likes to scream, cry and shout to get attention. I just feel like slapping on their parents' faces as they obviously have deaf ears.

Then there’s this couple of Mat Rempits living across the road who likes to test their engine every evening before the start of their journey.

On top of all these, there are kids from some family up the street who likes to scream and shout on top of their lungs and run up and down the street like some carnival every evening after school!

The most irritating so far is the one family directly opposite our house. The father and son love to sing karaoke and they do it every nite as if they are holding a concert! But the funny thing is I can only hear their voices over the mic and no music at all! They absolutely have no idea that their voices are like frog singing and yet they turn up the volume of the mic so high that the whole neighborhood can hear them. Now that the Chinese New Year is approaching, my king of karaoke neighbor is singing took took look took chang took took look took chang … sin lean lai lor …

I just wish I could do this! How to keep your sanity living in a place like mine?

Welcome to Jalan J-13.

First time

Today is my first attempt to try a new recipe ... the yam rice. This is also one of the 12 new recipes which I need to accomplish in order to fulfill one of my resolutions i.e. to learn 1 new recipe per month.

The ingredients are yam, mushrooms, chinese sausages, dried shrimps and pandan leaf

First I fried the dried shrimps till golden brown, take out and put aside. Then I stir fried the yam, mushrooms and chinese sausages which has been diced earlier. After that I put in some seasoning which includes oyster sauce, soya sauce, sugar and water. Then I pour the rice to the work and stir together with all the ingredients.

Next I pour all the ingredients into the rice cooker and thought that was it. But alas, the rice cannot cook because my rice cooker is too small to have all the stuff in it. I got no choice but to use the microwave instead. But after 10 minutes, half of the rice are not cook because too many ingredients and too little water! It's a disaster and to think I want to share my results with my colleagues! I'll be the laughing joke for 2007!!

But I'm not going to give up so easily ... I then use the microwave again to cook the rice and after 10 minutes there's still some rice not cook properly, so I use the wok and steamed the rice hopefully the result is better.

After 1 hour of struggling with the microwave and the wok, the yam rice is finally eatable. The taste is ok but still have room for improvement. I'm bringing some for my colleagues to try and lets see what they have to say on my first attempt!

the result ... Yam rice

My next recipe will be the rendang chicken and bubur cha cha. Hopefully can perform better.
