Sawatdee Kaa ... Bangkok

I'm back ... from a short holiday in Bangkok (also known as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon in Thai). It was an enjoyable 4 days/3 nites trip with my sister and cousin sister.

The Air Asia flight was delayed by 30 minutes. The minute the announcement was made on the flight delay ... everybody starts to q-up thinking the plane has arrive! It only goes to prove that most Malaysian are a bunch of kiasu people.

The problem with these people is they don't even listen properly to the announcement while the foreigner can't understand the local English, thus everyone starts jumping up from their seats and wait for that extra 30 minutes.

The funny thing is there was a 2nd announcement made to asked passenger to sit down until the plane arrives but nobody pay any attention. They are so afraid if they budge from their position, somebody will take their place. As for us, we were sitting down enjoying the view and laughing at their kiasusm (bunch of idiots)!

Upon arrival at the Suvarnabhumi airport, it took us another 1/2 hour to get through immigration.

While we were patiently waiting for our turn, there was this funny incident happened to make our day. A Caucasian lady with her husband was yakking away in front of us when out of a sudden, she starts digging here and there searching for something.

She checked her pockets, bags, shopping bags and poured everything out but still can't find whatever she's looking for. Finally her husband asked if she is searching for her passport and she said 'yes'. Well ... guess what? Her husband is holding both their passports all these while she was pouring everything out from her bag (mostly boxes of cigarettes). The husband was grinning ear to ear and looking back at us! We had a hard time controlling our laughter!

Hotel accommodation

The cab fare from airport to the hotel cost 450 baht and it took us 1 1/2 hours to reach the hotel due to traffic jam. Our accommodation is clean and spacious. We booked a deluxe room with 1 extra bed. It has a study corner and a sofa set by the side.

There's a balcony in our room although the view is not very impressive. But surprisingly the morning air was fresh and cooling.

Mode of transport

As the BTS skytrain (Ratchathewi station) is only 5 mins walk from our hotel, it has become the mode of transport for our stay in Bangkok.

Their mass transit system is so much advance than Bolehland (Malaysia) where you can interchange on the same station with just 1 ticket. Traveling around town is a bliss as you do not need to worry much about getting caught in the traffic.

This piece of plastic thingy is actually a MRT subway ticket

Inside the skytrain ... there are tv monitors for you to watch advertisements

From the platform you can see thru Siam Paragon

If you want to take a cab in Bangkok, be warned that they are all unofficial F1 drivers using Toyota Corollas. Charges starts from 35 baht.
